The new passenger boat service between Yarmouth and Lymington.
Quay 2 Quay provides an efficient, reliable, and consistent passenger boat service, along with improved customer service and choice on the Yarmouth – Lymington route.
Our state of the art boat with both enclosed and open passenger seating, together with the provision of onboard refreshments, provides a rich and refreshing customer experience.
Catering to those commuting to work and college, as well as those travelling for leisure purposes. Pair this with the thriving summer life in Yarmouth and the lovely beaches of Colwell and Totland only a stone’s throw away, each with amazing restaurants, it seems fitting to do our best to share these gems with those in the New Forest area and further afield.
Quay 2 Quay’s story began during the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Whilst undertaking some regular maintenance on The Coral Star, the harbour master in Yarmouth informed us that small ferries were now able to operate.
At the time, one of the main ferry services had ceased to operate on this route, which inspired us to fill the void which had been left and thus we began a regular as possible service to Lymington.
Initially, the operation was kept to low passenger numbers to enable social distancing.
Once the measures were lifted, the main operator recommenced the service. Though it was thought that small passenger ferry service would decline on the back of this, we only got busier and clearly saw the potential and need for a passenger ferry service from the Lymington Town Quay Pontoon in addition to Lymington Harbour Masters Pontoon, as did all our customers.
The only shortfall was the limitations of the current vessel. The Coral Star is an open boat which makes her far more susceptible to rough weather so we could not make the commitments to those needing to commute regularly. Beyond this is also the coding for the current vessel, being able to operate only between April and October during daylight hours.
This is where the inspiration for a new boat came from; the need for a vessel which can operate all day, all year, all weather.
After many years of looking for the right second hand vessel and discussions with harbours, it was decided that the best solution would be to have one built that suits the specification, and so the project was born.
We hope by opening this route we can bring a positive change for not only Yarmouth and Lymington, but for the whole West Wight and New Forest area.
